Our Vision

Our Vision

With passion & dedication, we develop and deliver the future energy system for a world worth living in. The three growth clusters Clean Dispatchable Power, Green Fuels & Infrastructure and Hydrogen directly contribute to Uniper’s future-oriented strategy grounded by strong key beliefs.

Clean Dispatchable Power

Uniper unlocks new potential for decarbonized power and storage with Clean Dispatchable Power including H₂-ready and CCS power plants that provide flexible, reliable energy and drive our sustainability goals.

Green Fuels & Infrastructure

Uniper drives the energy transition with low-carbon e-methanol and green hydrogen from imported ammonia advancing decarbonization, energy security, and a more sustainable future.

Hydrogen

Uniper drives Europe’s hydrogen future with projects in production, transport, storage, and use securing green gases for hard-to-abate sectors and providing a key piece of the climate neutrality puzzle.

Our projects aim to foster the energy transition

Decarbonization is our focus that is why we are joining forces to drive forward new solutions for power and gas across the entire value chain. Uniper leverages its flexible fleet while investing in decarbonization, building new dispatchable capacity, securing gas for customers and its power generation fleet, and transitioning to greener gases. Our projects are being developed with a focus on our core markets: Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, and the UK. The best place for us to start the transition is our own assets, which is why most of our projects are aiming to decarbonize existing sites that will be decommissioned and modernized. Due to our asset portfolios and commercial activities in these markets, the New Green Power & Gas teams can leverage many synergies across Uniper to help us deliver our goals.

Our Projects
Happurg

Happurg pumped storage power plant

Uniper is revitalizing Bavaria’s largest pumped storage plant in Happurg, adding 160 MW of flexible clean power with a 209 m drop and 1.8 million m³ capacity, storing 840 MWh of renewable energy.

GUD Scholven

Scholven 2

Uniper is transforming the site into a modern energy hub: phasing out coal, adding a new CHP plant, and developing H₂-ready power plants for future 100% hydrogen operation with around 870 MWel flexible capacity.

Staudinger

Staudinger unit 8

Uniper’s Staudinger site, Hesse’s largest conventional power plant, ensures grid stability with units 4 and 5. Future plans include an H₂-ready CCGT (≈870 MWel) to enable flexible, low-carbon power generation with hydrogen capability.

Killingholme

Killingholme low carbon power

Uniper plans a new CCGT project next to Killingholme power station: Phase I as unabated CCGT, Phase II with carbon capture, enabling 550 MWel capacity and capturing around 1.1 Mt CO₂ annually.

Connah’s Quay low carbon power

Uniper plans a low-carbon replacement at Connah’s Quay with a CCGT and carbon capture, part of the HyNet cluster in North Wales. The 550 MWel plant (expandable to ~1.1 GW) will capture around 1.2 Mt of CO₂ annually.

Northstar H2

NorthStarH2

NorthStarH2 plans a power-to-methanol plant in Östersund, Sweden, converting 140 kt biogenic CO₂ and 1.1 TWh renewable electricity into up to 112 kt of eMethanol annually.

Ammonia Terminal

Green Wilhelmshaven hydrogen import terminal

Uniper’s Green Wilhelmshaven hydrogen import terminal enables hydrogen from green and blue ammonia with on-site cracking. Germany’s only deep-water port links to major salt cavern storage and the future H₂ core grid, handling 300 ktpa.

Bad L 2025

Energy park Bad Lauchstädt

Uniper and partners VNG, Terrawatt, and ONTRAS drive the green H₂ economy in central Germany, producing and transporting ~3,000 tons (~99 GWh) of green hydrogen per year via converted pipelines to TotalEnergies in Leuna.

Project Chess

CHESS (Huntorf)

Uniper is developing a 30 MW electrolyzer in Huntorf to produce ~3 kt of green hydrogen per year. The site offers expansion potential up to 300 MW with direct links to the H₂ core network, storage infrastructure, and a nearby power plant.

Humber hub2

Humber H2ub® (Green)

Developing a hydrogen hub at the Killingholme energy transformation hub in the UK’s largest CO₂-emitting cluster, supplying green hydrogen via 120 MWel electrolyzers (21,000 Nm³/hr) with expansion potential up to 200 MWel.
