Towards a more sustainable future

As part of Uniper’s strategy ‘Accelerating the energy transition’, greener energy and secure supplies are at the top of our agenda. In this context, we increasingly procure sustainable solutions to contribute to Uniper’s journey to Net Zero.

We actively support the fundamental principles of the UN Global Compact in the areas of human rights, labour and environment, as well as the application of stringent ethical and moral business standards.

We seek to engage with qualified and innovative suppliers who contribute to our aim for sustainable growth, and strictly comply with our environmental, social and corporate governance criteria.

Sustainable sourcing

In order to achieve our sustainability objectives, environmental, social and governance (ESG) aspects represent an integral part of our procurement processes – from supplier onboarding and risk evaluation to sourcing strategies and supplier engagement plans.

Our supplier selection is guided by predefined sustainability criteria in alignment with our procurement strategies. These criteria cover environmental, social and governance aspects, tailored to the products and/or services we procure. We conduct supplementary ESG assessments to identify potential risks and opportunities to develop existing suppliers and even engage in new partnerships.

At Uniper Procurement, we regard sustainability as an opportunity to make better decisions, drive innovations, strengthen supplier relationships and develop more resilient supply chains. We facilitate this approach through internal training and constant enhancements to our supplier management processes. By increasing the number of tenders that incorporate sustainability criteria, we aim to strengthen the role of ESG aspects in procurement decisions. Our teams are continuously reviewing relevant criteria to ensure alignment with the individual requirements of all business lines.

Compliant sourcing

We operate with high ethical standards and put them into practice every day and everywhere we do business.
Uniper has a Business Policy in place for identifying, verifying and reporting the main compliance risks potentially posed by new suppliers, before contracts are concluded: As an integral part of our onboarding process, we require suppliers to provide information about their company, the ownership structure, the products and services offered, and to acknowledge Uniper’s Supplier Code of Conduct.
Our standard proceedings foresee an extensive compliance check as prerequisite to complete the registration. Moreover, advanced digital risk management solutions ensure real-time risk monitoring, including supplier compliance alerts, as basis for compliant decision making.

Health and safety are key

Our top priority is to work safely, look after our people’s health, and protect them from harm.
Services required by Uniper are in many cases classified as high Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) risk activities. Our commitment to health and safety extends to the employees of our suppliers. Therefore, we engage with suppliers and manage HSSE risks at every phase of pre-contractual and contractual relationships:
