As a Graduate in the Trainee Program, you have the opportunity to get to know different divisions and to gain valuable experience. The 18- / 24-month program based in Germany, with a combination of pre-defined and flexible stations, also gives you the opportunity to gain international experience and work in various business units. The program offers an in-depth insight into our business and enables you to explore and develop your competencies. You will have the chance to bring-in and enhance your social and collaborative skills. You will get personal mentoring and a buddy from day one to ensure you have the best possible foundation for the next step in your career at Uniper.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for you if you have completed a Bachelor's or Master's degree and ideally have gained some practical experience in the form of relevant internships or working student activities.
You should have a high degree of curiosity and openness for working in an intercultural environment. We are a very international company with locations in over 40 countries and employees from many different countries. Our working language is English, but in some areas knowledge of German is also an advantage.
We have a strong portfolio of assets, locations and competencies in the energy sector and we aim to accelerate energy transition in a flexible, balanced and bespoke way. If this sounds exciting and challenging to you, Uniper is the right place for you.

Renewables

Uniper Renewables are a central pillar of Unipers growth and decarbonization strategy. Focusing on Solar and Onshore Wind in European markets, Uniper Renewables pursue ambitious targets to develop, engineer, construct, operate & optimize and commercialize renewables projects and assets. All core activities required for this business model are embedded in Uniper Renewables, whilst any supporting activities are provided by Unipers corporate functions.

Enabling Functions

Our Enabling Functions ensure that our operational business runs smoothly. Whether in HR, Corporate Communication & Governmental Relations, Internal Audit, Procurement, HSSE & Sustainability, or other central areas – they create the framework for growth, innovation, and sustainability. They play a crucial role in the development and future viability of the company, actively shaping the future of the energy industry.

Energy Assets, Asset Transformation & NGPG (New Green Power & Gas)

Energy Assets is responsible for managing, operating and optimizing our energy assets to ensure a reliable and sustainable energy supply. Asset Transformation focuses on modernizing and improving existing assets to maximize efficiency and sustainability. NGPG (New Green Power & Gas) develops and implements advanced technologies to maximize energy production from renewable sources.

With my background in energy technology and interests in energy economic, Uniper as a big player in the energy industry was relatively quick on my radar. In my current placement at one of our Energy Assets I am responsible for implementing the process quality standard for a gas turbine. Everything I've done here so far - technical, financial and management - are of equal interest to me. That makes the traineeship a great way to follow your interests and find the right vocation for me.

Finance

Our Finance department ensures the financial stability and future viability of the company. Through precise analyses, forward-looking planning, and efficient financial management, we create the foundation for sustainable growth and strategic decisions. Finance ensures that investments are targeted, risks are minimized, and opportunities are optimally utilized – for a strong financial base in a changing energy industry.

IT & Digital Track

Uniper’s IT department represents a team of international, multidisciplinary professionals who creates a very unique work culture which is diverse, inclusive and friendly. Thanks to our modern infrastructure, our portfolio of work includes, enabling seamless remote work, managing best-in-class data platforms, running fully cloudified applications while designing and delivering innovative software solutions for our business.

Trading & Commercial

Trading & Commercial is the dynamic center for energy trading and commercial optimization. This department is responsible for trading energy products, market analysis, and developing trading strategies to maximize economic success. With a deep understanding of energy markets and a strong network of partners and customers, Trading & Commercial plays a crucial role in ensuring stable and profitable energy supply.

After graduating, I honestly didn't know exactly what I wanted to do. But it was important to me that I wanted to contribute to society and work on projects that are always relevant and important. At Uniper, I think it's great that I can choose my own assignments. So far, I've worked in three areas and have always been warmly welcomed. Although I studied business, after intensive training I'm also able to contribute effectively in technical areas.

Application process and locations

Application process

1. The first step is your online application via our career page. Here you can upload all relevant information about yourself: CV, cover letter, certificates and references.

2. After reviewing your application documents, an initial selection of suitable applicants is made, who are invited to take an online test.

3. In a next step, the shortlisted candidates will be invited to a virtual meeting with the HR department, where the trainee programme is presented and your initial questions are answered.

4. After a successful check, our selected candidates will receive an invitation to an application day on site.

The next application days will take place between 28 July and 15 August 2025.

5. Successful candidates will then receive a contract offer.

6. You start your Traineeship with an individual onboarding program during which we introduce you to Uniper and provide you with all the information you need for an optimal start.

At which locations are we looking for trainees?

Our trainee positions are mainly advertised for the headquarter location in Düsseldorf. With our FlexWork concept, we give you the freedom to work from the office or from home in consultation with your respective manager. You also have the opportunity to strengthen your intercultural skills as part of an international placement at one of our foreign locations, for example in England, the USA, Sweden or the Netherlands.
