The nuclear power plant comprised two reactors. The first to be shut down was Barsebäck 1 in 1999, followed by Barsebäck 2 in 2005. Barsebäcksverket is now being dismantled and demolished. The spent nuclear fuel was removed a long time ago, and its processing systems are now undergoing large-scale dismantling. The spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste will be transported to the Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Company’s final repository when the construction of those facilities is complete.
