What we do

In the Netherlands, we produce electricity, heat, and steam. Our sites, power plants, and competencies play an important role in ensuring a reliable energy supply for our country during the energy transition.

Net zero emissions by 2040

We focus on both: CO2 reduction and reliable energy supply

Energy is a crucial factor in our daily lives, essential for food production, transportation, and global communication. With the growth of the world's population and the improvement of living standards, more and more people are gaining access to modern energy sources. At Uniper, we are committed to harnessing human creativity, innovation, and technological advancement to provide the energy our customers need now and in the future, with the goal of minimizing our ecological footprint.

Tailored solutions for industrial customers

We start by changing ourselves to change the industry

Although natural gas and combined cycle gas turbine power plants are extremely efficient, in the coming years there will be a transition to other energy sources. In order to contribute to a more sustainable future and achieve fossil-free energy, Uniper aims to reduce its CO2 emissions and aims to be completely carbon neutral for our own operations, our suppliers, and our customers by 2040. Uniper also aims to have more than 80% carbon-free installed power generation capacity by 2030. We are committed to close collaboration with partners, governments, and cities to achieve this goal.

Stop using coal, start using hydrogen

The use of fossil fuels does not align with a future vision focused on net-zero emissions. By 2030, no coal may be burned in the Netherlands. Coal-fired power plants will therefore need to close or be converted to, for example, a biomass plant. For our urban power plants, this means that we will continue to produce energy, but increasingly from other sources. We see green gas and sustainable hydrogen as promising applications in the long term.
