About energy production

The Leiden city power plant is vital for the energy supply in Leiden. This plant converts natural gas into electricity and heat using CCGT technology (Combined Cycle Gas Turbine), also known as CHP (Combined Heat and Power).
The plant's net electrical output is 85 MW. The residual heat generated is supplied to the local heat network, providing households with the necessary heat for hot water and heating.
Uniper aims to be fully CO2-neutral by 2040, transitioning to alternative energy sources such as green gas and sustainable hydrogen.
Future of the city power plant
From an innovative fuel like metal powder to 'traditional' solar panels on our own roof, Uniper's city power plants contribute in many ways to a better, sustainable Netherlands. See for yourself!
