High-efficiency power generation at the Irsching site

The Irsching site consists of one oil-fired and two gas-fired units. Due to the grid situation in southern Germany, the oil-fired unit 3 has been held in grid reserve since 2012 to secure the power supply in critical grid situations. The final decommissioning will take place on December 31, 2023.

The Ulrich Hartmann power plant (unit 4) has a capacity of 561 MW and went into operation in 2011. With an efficiency of 60.4 percent, it is one of the most efficient combined cycle plants in the world. Irsching 4 is named after Ulrich Hartmann, former CEO and later Chairman of the Supervisory Board of E.ON.

The Irsching 5 joint-venture power plant was commissioned in 2010. With an efficiency of 59.7 percent, it is one of the most modern combined cycle plants in Europe. In addition to Uniper with 50.2 percent of the shares, N-ERGIE (25.2 percent), Mainova (15.6 percent) and ENTEGA (9 percent) have stakes in Irsching 5.

A new gas-fired plant, Irsching 6, is also being built at the site, which will serve as a so-called "special grid facility" for network stability.
